Overview

Only 30 km from Prague is the most famous and most recognizable castle in the Czech Republic, the castle - Karlštejn. Extended above the surface of the Berounka river on a 72-meter high-rise rock, the fabulous Karlštejn is a silent witness to the dramatic events of Czech and European history. The castle was built according to the project of Matvei Arras in the Gothic style. In the 16th century, the royal chambers were redesigned in the Renaissance style. The buildings are built stepwise and constitute a single ensemble of architecture. The castle that was built was higher than the previous one, the top of this ensemble is the Great Tower and the chapel of the Holy Cross, in it were kept the relics of the kings.
There was stored the most precious crown of all time - the crown of the Holy Roman Empire. Then the Emperor Charles IV brought a vine from France and dropped it on the high banks of the Berounka River near the castle. The Berounka Valley has everything that the edge of wine should have - lots of sun, hills and talented winemakers.
Since then, for several centuries now, in Karlstejn, not a single holiday can not do without Karlstejn wine. For local people, this wine is not just a delicious drink, but also a symbol of the region. And for tourists - an original souvenir from this amazing region.
